Part of the guide: Nearshore Software Development: A Field Guide

SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah, October 6, 2026. sourceBOLD, which has operated since 2014 and matches US companies with software developers from across the Americas, now places four more kinds of technical professional: data people, QA automation engineers, DevOps and cloud engineers, and product designers. Each is engaged month to month, with 4 to 8 hours of overlap with a US workday, and goes through the same vetting as our developers.

The new roles are on a single page, Who we place, with a page for each family and typical starting prices for mid-level and senior people.

The new roles

  • Data: data and BI analysts, data and analytics engineers, data scientists, and ML engineers. They build the dashboards, warehouse pipelines and models a team relies on.
  • QA automation: engineers who write and maintain automated end-to-end, API and integration tests, and run them in the client's CI pipeline. Manual testing is not offered.
  • DevOps and cloud: engineers for cloud infrastructure written as code, build and deployment pipelines, and monitoring.
  • Design: UX/UI and product designers who take a flow from research to a prototype and hand it to the developers who build it.

Software development continues as before.

Why we're adding them

A product team rarely needs developers alone. Alongside its developers it usually also needs someone to own its tests, someone to keep its infrastructure and deploys healthy, someone to make its data trustworthy, or someone to design what gets built next. Until now, those roles were outside what we offered. Now one partner can cover them too, under the same contract structure and through the same vetting.

"Software is rarely built by developers alone," said Ian Wilson, President of sourceBOLD. "We already know how to find and vet strong technical people across the Americas, so we've extended the same process to the people who work beside them."

What stays the same

  • One way of working. Everyone we place works inside the client's tools and channels, with 4 to 8 hours of overlap with the client's day, and the client works with them directly on the deliverables and deadlines in the SOW.
  • One vetting process. Every candidate is screened against the role, then we meet them, check their English, confirm their experience, call their references and review their work, whether that's code or a design portfolio. How we vet candidates explains each step. The client interviews the people we put forward and chooses who joins the team.
  • One contract structure. Everyone we place is an independent contractor of sourceBOLD. We act as their contractor of record: we hold their contract and handle their payments, tax documents and expense reimbursements. Clients sign our MSA and an SOW for each engagement, and both are available on request.
  • One monthly fee per person. Clients are invoiced on the 15th for the following month and pay by ACH. Typical starting prices for every role are on the roles page and on what it costs. Each engagement's actual fee is set in its SOW.

A note on data access

Data and DevOps work often means access to production systems and sensitive data, so the data page spells out how that works. Contractors may work from outside the United States, across the Americas, but we never permit access from a country under comprehensive US sanctions or from a country the US Department of Justice lists as a country of concern for sensitive personal data. Clients don't give contractors health information, payment-card data or other regulated personal data unless we have first agreed in writing how it will be handled. Everything a contractor creates for a client under an SOW belongs to the client as it is created.

Getting started

To engage someone in one of the new roles, choose Get started on Who we place or any role page and tell us about the work. How it works covers each step from there. We'll say which level we'd put forward and start screening against your role.
